Dr. Lan Tao, a researcher and expert in structural engineering, has been granted special government allowances by the State Council. Currently, he serves as the Deputy General Manager and Chief Engineer at China State Shipbuilding Corporation International Engineering Co., Ltd. He also holds the position of doctoral supervisor at Beijing University of Technology and Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, and serves as a master's supervisor at Tongji University, Southwest Jiaotong University, and Tianjin University. Additionally, he is a member of the editorial boards of the journals "Industrial Construction" and "Welding Technology." He is recognized as an expert in talent award evaluations by the China Association for Science and Technology and is a member of the Expert Committee of the China Steel Construction Society, among other roles.

He has authored nearly 100 academic papers, contributed to the editing and development of 48 national and industry standards, published two academic monographs, and secured 51 patents and 41 software copyrights. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, he led a national key R&D project, a scientific and technological innovation and R&D initiative for China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, and received funding from the National Engineering Research Center for Steel Construction. He has also participated in over ten national key R&D plans and programs sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation, with a cumulative research fund exceeding 50 million yuan. He has overseen the management of more than 100 major national engineering design projects, encompassing a total completed area of approximately 9 million square meters and a total investment exceeding 22 billion yuan. He has received 18 prestigious academic awards at the provincial and ministerial levels, including the Beijing Invention Patent Special Prize, the Special Prize and First Prize for Science and Technology from the China Steel Construction Society, the Science and Technology Research Outstanding Achievement Special Prize for Shanxi universities, and the Science and Technology First Prize from China National Machinery Industry Corporation, among others. He has also been honored with the titles of "Expert with Outstanding Contribution" and "Ship Contribution Award" by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited.

He has dedicated a significant portion of his career to researching, promoting, and applying steel structures. Several of his pioneering technologies have provided invaluable support for the construction of major national projects. Among these achievements, one noteworthy key technology involves double-layer shoulder beams used in high-end equipment manufacturing workshops, enabling cranes to lift weights of up to thousands of tons. Additionally, the development of box-plate prefabricated buildings, which integrate design concepts from top ship superstructures, features explosion resistance, rapid assembly, absence of wet operations, and environmental friendliness, making them suitable for military, national defense, emergency, and civilian applications. He has also made significant contributions through his key technology advancements in heavy-duty long-span complex steel structures, solving the challenges of integrating design and construction for trusses capable of bearing loads of up to 10,000 tons. This has led to enhanced safety and comfort in structural applications. Furthermore, his research on the operational mechanisms and key technologies of Corten steel in plateau environments has provided robust support for the widespread adoption and utilization of Corten steel in such high-altitude regions. His research findings have been incorporated into numerous national and industry standards and have found extensive use.

He possesses extensive experience in scientific research and design and has demonstrated his ability to manage major projects effectively. He has successfully supervised the training of 26 doctoral and master's students in the field of steel structures. Moreover, he has established a comprehensive mechanism for the integration of industry, academia, and research, yielding significant economic and social benefits through successful technology transfer and implementation.
